Of Walking Candy and Hot Mommies

Always and will be kids' weaknesses.

And reasons why I'm OK with the once-in-a-while-candy-indulgence...

Can someone please take that dummy away!

This kid is full of drama. The moment I wanna talk about confiscating her dummy, she starts with her antics and babbling..(of course with the "I-still-got-the-baby-talk" it was kinda hard to comprehend what she was trying to tell me)

But! when it gets overboard, I will be slapping my forehead when the lil' one gets all sugar rush and sugar high..

OK enough darling, you've been wrestling with that candy for far too long now...

Morover, there's just too much sugar and colourings in it that is just not suitable for growing children. (Yes, I am guilty of such.....   -_____-  )

Anyway, speaking of sugar rush, I went for some weekend shopping to get some educational toys for my daughter, but ended up buying clothes for her. *Slaps forehead again*

But really, you can't blame me..Just look my purchases..

So ladies, does these looks inspire you?

Now who says motherhood means you need to sacrifice your own fashion sense?  :)

Mum's the word

Happy Mother's Day to all mommies, mommies-to-be, step-mommies, aunties, grandmas and to myself as well! Hehehe..

A huge tribute goes out to all ladies who are, and play the role as mommies..hats off, hands up and big cheers for u!

Courtesy of Google Image

Sorry for the late wish ladies but I hope all of you had a good one with your loved ones. Well, mine didn't actually turned out well - My mom was admitted to the hospital for incessant coughs so being the only daughter at home of course I had to be there for her. And my 1-year-old daughter still didn't know the meaning of Mother's Day yet (perhaps everyday is Mother's Day for her or perhaps I should be giving her dad more hints) so it was a simple Mother's Day for me and mom at the hospital. But anyway mom has been discharged from the hospital and going for her follow-up check ups so all is good now.

My surprise bouquet of carnations and a huge wishing card to cheer mom up..

You should see the shock on her face when I brought in the bouquet of flowers in her ward..heheh now that's what we call a grand entrance. Actually it's just a simple bouquet but being moms, they will be teary-eyed with everything. (I know I am for sure). As I have become a mother myself, being at the hospital with her wasn't a chore at all. It all starts coming back to me..all the flashback moments..when I was in hospital and mom was there for me too..growing up all mischievous and of course who else to make me into the person I am today - of course Mom..So Mom, besides the flowers and gift i gave to you, I'm not so good with words but here's a little dedication to you..

Mama by The Spice Girls

She used to be my only enemy and never let me free
Catching me in places that I know I shouldn't be
Every other day I crossed the line
I didn't mean to be so bad
I never thought you would become the friend I never had

Back then I didn't know why
Why you were misunderstood (So now)
So now I see through your eyes
All that you did was love

Mama I love you
Mama I care
Mama I love you
Mama my friend
(You're my friend)

I didn't want to hear it then but
I'm not ashamed to say it now
Every little thing you said and did was right for me
I had a lot of time to think about, about the way I used to be
Never had a sense of my responsibility

Back then I didn't know why
Why you were misunderstood (So now)
So now I see through your eyes
All that you did was love

Mama I love you
Mama I care
Mama I love you
Mama my friend
(You're my friend)
You're my friend

But now I'm sure I know why (I know why)
Why you were misunderstood
So now I see through your eyes (I see through your eyes)
All I can give you is love (All I can give you is love)

Mama I love you
Mama I care
Mama I love you
Mama my friend

Mama I love you
Mama I care
Mama I love you
Mama my friend
(You're my friend)
Ohhh, oh mama
(You're my friend)
Ohhh, oh, ohhhhh mama
Ohhh, oh, ohhhhh mama I'm loving You
Your Loving Me
(Continues in background) I Know Its True
Mama I love you And Garranteed
Mama I care
Mama I love you I'm Loving You
Mama my friend Your Loving Me
I Know Its True
Mama I love you And Garranteed
Mama I care
Mama I love you I'm Loving You (Loving You)
Mama my friend Your Loving Me (Loving Me)
I Know Its True (I know Its True)
Mama I love you And Garranteed
Mama I care
Mama I love you

I was also planning for a Mother's Day activity with my daughter as well but that didn't happen so I'll try to make everyday as Mother's Day..Heheh..I always told mom that my greatest fear in life is giving birth but her assurance gave me the confidence to weather through the whole labour process. Painful! BUT oh-so-worth-it. The best pain and gift I could ever ask for..

Of course I just HAD to slit in the "Keep Calm For Mums" notebook..

How else can I keep myself sane while being a mother? ;)

Baby Boom - The Diapercake Story

I have a confession to make -- I am a terrible baker, my banana cake will usually look like it just fell flat on its face or my puddings will taste like rubber. Either the oven hates me or these hands were not made for baking. (perhaps I have other untapped talents rite....<--trying to pacify myself. Heheh)

But what do you know, I FINALLY am good at baking! (well, not really that good but feels rewarding when you see the end product)..baking a Diaper-cake that is! (Hehe I fooled you for a second didn't I?) It's addictive really, once you get the hang of it (making Diapercakes that is) you feel like making more and more and more....

Anyway speaking of making diapercakes, lately it seems that everyone is or will have a lil bub. And for every mom or a mom-to-be they would have different stories to tell for each of their pregnancy. I'm only a mom to a daughter (as we speak) so I can't really compare one pregnancy to another. But I can say that mine was quite alrite (despite having to stop between meetings to throw up and enduring the "almost-wetting-my-pants-everytime-I-sneeze-or-cough") and I was quite surprise at myself for forcing myself to be active all the time. (duh, now that makes sense why Alveena is a handful!) and the feeling of someone growing in your stomach is truly indescribable. It's so surreal that something is growing in your tummy and the fact that the circumference of the belly is growing all angles keeps reality in check. (Don't get me started with the stretchmarks and itchy belly and the "how-come-I-feel-like-the-purple-coloured character-"Grimace"-from-McDonald's-sets-of-friends" and etc) But hey, look at the brighter side:

1) A baby makes love stronger, the days shorter, the nights longer, bankroll smaller, clothes shabbier and a home happier (riteee.....) BUT the past forgotten and the future worth living for.

2) Those who say they "Sleep like a baby', haven't got one. - Anonymous quote

3) Having one child makes you a parent, having two you are a referee - quote from David Frost (perhaps I would understand that when Alveena gets a sibling....)

and finally (for today)..

4) Wrinkles are hereditary - parents get them from their children. - quote from Doris Day    (soooo looking forward to that -__- )

Anyway what I wanna share really is the process of me making the diapercakes. The history is funny actually. I have a girlfriend who was asking me who could make a diapercake for another girlfriend who was gonna expect her lil one soon. She herself was already good at baking and such and here she was asking if I knew anyone who could make a diapercake or perhaps I had the talent to make one. I was like "You've gotta be kidding! Me and my oven, we are not friends YET, but I can recommend you to a friend who can make one".

In my mind, I was all the time thinking a diapercake is a cake that looks like a diapercake (Yep, I know I know, don't give me the look please!!) So in the end I made the extra effort to make use of Google Image. And then i went "Ohhhhhhhhh". Hahaha. Please forgive the naive-ness. And when I wanted to get back to my girlfriend to tell her that I already knew what she was talking about, she had already finished her version of a diapercake. Haha so much of making an impression.

Anyway I was kinda intrigued to try my hands at it, from the ones I saw on the Net they were all neat, cute, colourful and looked soooo easy to make. And so I was just waiting for girlfriends who were about to pop the bun soon. And when I finally got the chance to make these babies, I managed to make both the pink and blue version...yeay!

First, the PINK version...

Getting ready all the baby stuffs..

Then setting the "cake" with diapers...the base, the bottom layer and top layer

Then, arranging them to fit into the "cake" structure..

Finally, a cake fit for a princess!
Oh, the pink bear was kinda tricky to be put as the pinnacle of the cake,
so there was no pink bear in the end. Hehe.

Second try, the blue version..

Laying out all the baby blue stuffs..

Individually wrapping each item with blue ribbons..

The two-tier cake is almost ready..

Let's see if the rest of the stuffs can fit within the "cake"...
Oh shoot, again the soft toy can't seem to find its place on the "cake"..

...But Anyway....it's a wrap baby!!

I think if it's the next time I would have a baby, I'd be happily making my own diapercake and giving it to myself. Hahahaha. It's addictive you guys, you should try it! :)

Hey Ma, hear me roar!

Children have their own unique ways of commanding or getting their parents' attention (I'm speaking from my own experience raising a lil' diva at home) but surprisingly some don't. I observed this when I attended my girl friend's son's 1st Safari inspired birthday party. I absolutely L.O.V.E that safari concept...yeay, roar! party, party! Hehe.

Check out the cute invite..Now isn't this adorable?
OK, I intentionally added the cheetah-frame just to be in the mood. Hehe.

So this time round I'm not gonna speak about my lil' diva but about the birthday boy himself. He is a handsome young man, who doesn't fret much, very easy-going with anyone and does not complain a wince even when covered with a thick costume in our hot-and-humid-equatorial-weather. And when he smiles, them ladies (usually mommies because children they are more engrossed with many other things) will usually be the ones going all "awwwwww......look at his smile!!" (I am one living example. I'm sucha sucker for sweet and innocent smiling kids. They melt you right away I tell ya. Hehe).

Anyway, he is affectionately called Achad and on his birthday he decided to be a tiger..And of course I was humbled when I received the honour to sew the tiger-costume for his birthday. I was all sweaty and nervous and anxious for a 1st time request like this...well I've never thought I'd be sewing a tiger costume...EVER! But his mommy assured me, "don't worry this, don't worry that.."..how can I NOT be worried, this is like a first for me..and it's for a birthday party, of course I wanted everything to be perfect for him. No one can deny the fact that there is a first to everything, but hey if we don't try we won't know, right... :)

Right, so let's get started...First and foremost is this..getting the exact and most comfy measurements...

Achad's own clothing in order for me to obtain his exact measurements..
A pair of jeans and hoodie

Next step is, picking the suitable colours...

A piece of colour sample to show to Achad's mommy..
Orange for the body and black for the stripes..CHECK!

Then, the tiger shall be skinned alive...hehe kidding! Getting the body patterns ready...

Let's see...a cute pair of ears, hoodie, arms sleeves, bodice and also the tail..
(I was imagining Tigger all the while with the bouncy tail...)

And then...

Oh look, the tiger has now earned its' stripes
Individually sewn black stripes and white patches for the tummy and ears area..

Now look, the end product...I'm proud to introduce my 1st custom made children's costume..

The Tiger Costume!

It might not be the most perfect costume (I apologized a gazillion times to Achad's mommy for such an amateurish result... nonetheless I am so proud of my hard work :) )

Proud parents of Achad on his 1st Safari themed birthday..
See, even mommy was in the mood to be wild with the cheetah-printed top and pointy cat ears!
And dad seemed to look like a safari-adventurer complete with the knee-grazing khakis..
I should give credit to these people for being almost the best-dressed besides their cutie-pie son..ehem..hahahahah...

Finally, even tigers need help lighting up the candles...
Why not, it's his birthday after all :)

GO TIGER!

Toy story

Alveena has been really subtle these days. Really subtle. Perhaps she's trying to tell me that she's already bored with her already-massive collection of toys. But just look at their pathetic condition. I guess I should ask her to watch all the Toy Story movies just to let her know how they all really feel.(OK don't tell a soul that I'm sucha sissy coz I actually shed so many tears watching those movies..heheheh) I'm not sure if she's trying to tell me to get new toys for her, but then again whenever I turn around, I see her toy(s) everywhere!

The displacement of the playpen already says it all

The baby cot now serves as a different purpose

Even during my heydays (suddenly I feel so ancient...sigh) we didn't have remote-controlled cars and motorcycles to drive us around in the living hall. (OK I don't think I was so deprived during my childhood days but don't you think this is getting a bit out of hand...?)

I truly feel like being in a garage

Of course the remote-controlled toys were bought by her grandparents - being the 1st born grandchild really has its perks I suppose, but she has to learn to play with the bugs and butterflies and dirt and sand and...(OK she should play with dolls actually...) as these build character. And perhaps I should smack myself in the forehead (or any other place) when I thought to myself, "OK let's get her something engaging and educational to play with" (as if she haven't had enough toys rite??)......

Anyway, check out what arrived in the post recently....

Looks intimidating at first..

...and when the packaged was unveiled....introducing multi-coloured building blocks made out of foam!

Yes, even this toy gave us a pageant look...side, top and front view respectively..

I got it from  my friend actually, who sells different kinds of educational toys for children. Being a mom herself, I guess she understood where I was coming from. (Phew, I'm glad I got an excuse to get Alveena another toy!) So as soon as I opened the package, she came running and begging me to take it all out.

The building blocks were singing "Build me up Buttercup" (err...geddit?)

Oh, glad u noticed that huge band pasted across her forehead, which was among the many reasons why my blogging was so so slow. Her fever was intermittently coming and going away as often as it liked so yeah, when in mommy-mode on, nothing else mattered of course. You actually get a whole lot sicker than your kid when they actually are. When in doubt, always, always, always go back to "Keep Calm for Mums"
(my saviour, anti-frantic-fretting-frenzy-insane-mommy-mode)..

OK, looks like a really good read..

Some of my favourites...Rule # 1!

Of course, who would deny this fact..

And the ultimate truth of all :)

Oh well, let's just go with the flow. Actually, I want so much to blame her teething but then again I was wrong when the doctor diagnosed her with bronchitis. OK, you know what, I don't wanna dwell too much about her sickly days, my point is I'm glad she is happy-go-lucky again now, even more so when she is happily building and bulldozing away those coloured blocks.

And you thought I didn't think my itchy hands wouldn't wanna make her something "in conjunction" with her officiating of a new toy? Anddddd of course I just couldn't let go (yet) the idea of my old scrap t-shirts lying around in my closet waiting to be disposed off..

Red, white and blue
(Correct me if I'm wrong but somehow my 1st thought is Captain America's theme song during the 80's)

Hehehe....and presenting the end result.....the Multi-Colour Block Play Dress for a playdate with the colour-block toys..(I can't seem to let go the colour block idea can I? *with a smirk on my face*)

A fusion of the top part and bottom half..
Mini Muse : Alveena
Age : 1++ years old
Hairband : Mommy's elastic band
Highcut Shoes : All the way from the Union Jack birthplace
Pose: See mom, I'm getting better at my poses!

Hip, hip Hooray!

So finally, all my worries went away when I saw the smile on her face playing her toy(s).
And the smile on my face when I finished that dress. Hehehe.

Oh well, looks like another thing on my to-do list: The hunt for Toy Story Blue-Ray disc series. :)
